In 1885, civil engineer Leprilete Sweet founded L. Sweet & Company, in the Olneyville section of Providence, RI.
He then purchased a wooden frame building from the Church of the Messiah on the other side of Olneyville. Seeking access to the railroad, Mr. Sweet relocated the building to Harris Avenue where it was erected, remodeled, and placed on a new foundation. Here it became the new storefront for L. Sweet and remains so today.
Establishing a reputation for servicing the region with top quality lumber, the company name was updated to L. Sweet Lumber Co., Inc. Now in our fifth generation of business, we continue to be Local, Family-owned and operated.
Additional products lines have been added throughout the years, making L. Sweet Lumber highly regarded as a go-to, one-stop shop for lumber and building materials.
